CAMPITELLU: A village in the heart of the Corsican mountains
A small village with a picturesque and authentic look,Campitellu which means " small field " is built in the form of an amphitheatre, which gives it this majestic stature.
Occupying a strip of territory extending north from the ridge line connecting the Tenda mountain range in the west to the Stella mountain range in the east, to the bed of the Golo river in the south.
To the northeast, at an altitude of over 1,000 m, an area of the territory is covered by the western end of the Stella Territorial Forest.
Campitellu is also known for its legends and especially the site of the Madonna. Situated below the hamlet of Panicale you can nowadays discover the statue of the Madonna and its miraculous spring. Every year, around the 21st of June, a mass is celebrated and a procession descends to the rock of the apparitions.
